Milbemycin oxime, lufenuron and praziquantel, commercially available as Sentinel SPECTRUM, is a triple-agent preventative for canine parasite management. It is a prescription medication frequently considered in the context of preventative health for patients at risk of heartworms, intestinal worms and tapeworms. Your veterinarian will determine appropriateness based on your dog's lifestyle and diagnostic findings.

The actions described here reflect the product's FDA-approved labeling; your veterinarian determines the appropriate use for your animal.

At a pharmacological level, it integrates three agents to help manage internal parasite lifecycles and manage the development of flea eggs. Commonly observed effects may include localized digestive changes such as vomiting or diarrhea. A significant clinical consideration is the requirement for a negative heartworm test before use. Owners should monitor for any unusual behavioral shifts and contact their veterinarian promptly with any concerns regarding the patient's response to the medication.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes. Sentinel SPECTRUM is a prescription medication and requires a valid authorization from a licensed veterinarian. Mixlab verifies all requirements before dispensing.

How is this different from regular Sentinel?

Veterinarians discuss Sentinel SPECTRUM because it adds praziquantel, which offer an approach to managing tapeworms in addition to heartworms and other intestinal parasites.

Does this kill adult fleas?

No. Like regular Sentinel, the lufenuron component is used in the context of managing flea populations by preventing eggs from hatching. If adult fleas are present, your veterinarian may discuss an additional management approach.

How often is it administered?

Sentinel SPECTRUM is designed for monthly administration. Your veterinarian will provide a specific schedule and determine the duration based on environmental risks.

What if my dog vomits after the dose?

If vomiting occurs shortly after administration, you should contact your veterinarian. They will determine if a repeat dose is necessary to ensure the management approach remains appropriate.
