Mirtazapine is an oral medication (tetracyclic antidepressant) used off-label in dogs and cats primarily as an appetite stimulant and anti-nausea aid. It helps encourage pets to eat when they have appetite loss due to conditions like chronic kidney disease, gastrointestinal disease, or cancer, and is often given as a small tablet or compounded into a transdermal gel.
