Memantine is an oral NMDA-receptor antagonist occasionally used in dogs (and sometimes cats) to help manage cognitive dysfunction (senility) or certain neurological conditions. By modulating glutamate activity, memantine may improve cognitive function in older pets or assist in controlling neuropathic pain, as part of a comprehensive treatment plan under a veterinarian’s guidance.
