Sodium Chloride Hypertonicity 5% Ophthalmic Solution is a specialized eye drop used for dogs, cats, and horses to reduce corneal edema, which is the painful swelling caused by excess fluid buildup in the cornea. By creating a hypertonic environment on the surface of the eye, the solution uses osmotic pressure to draw out the trapped fluid, effectively "dehydrating" the cornea to restore clarity and comfort. This treatment is commonly utilized for pets suffering from corneal ulcers, endothelial dystrophy, or post-operative swelling, helping to prevent the formation of painful bullae or "blisters" on the ocular surface.

The active ingredient in this formulation is Sodium Chloride 5% (50 mg per mL).

To administer this medication, wash your hands thoroughly and gently pull down the pet's lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the bottle above the eye without touching the tip to any surface or the eye itself, and squeeze one or two drops into the pocket as directed by your veterinarian, usually every three to four hours. Because the high salt concentration can cause a temporary stinging or burning sensation upon application, it is helpful to provide positive reinforcement and closely monitor the eye for any increased redness or discomfort.

Sodium Chloride 5% Ophthalmic Solution is a hypertonic ophthalmic solution. It is a hypertonic saline solution used to help draw excess moisture from the surface of the eye; use per the labeling and your veterinarian's guidance.

This is an over-the-counter product for external use. Use according to the product labeling and your veterinarian's guidance; it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Available through Mixlab.

For external ophthalmic use; avoid touching the applicator tip to the eye. If you notice redness, squinting, cloudiness or discharge, see your veterinarian, as these can signal a condition that needs treatment.
