How to Give Anhydrous Oral Suspension

Oral Suspension (Anhydrous) is a liquid medication that does not contain water in its base. This might be an oil-based or other special base to help stabilize the medicine. It will look like a regular liquid medication, but often needs a good shake because the drug can settle. Here's how to give it:

  1. Shake well each time to mix the medication (5-10 seconds).
  2. Measure the dose using the syringe/dropper provided or one recommended by your vet. Insert the top of the oral syringe into the bottle adapter. Turn the bottle upside down and pull the plunger until the medicine reaches the volume required
  3. Hold your pet steady: a towel or helper can assist with squirmy pets.
  4. Administer the dose slowly into the side of the mouth. Allow small pauses if needed for swallowing.
  5. Raise the head slightly to help the medication go down and clean any spills with a little water or tissue.
  6. Praise your pet and offer a treat or water (unless advised against feeding right after).
  7. Clean the syringe with water immediately after use. Store the bottle as directed, out of sunlight.
  8. Consistency is key: Shake each time, measure accurately, and contact your vet if any issues arise.

Robenacoxib is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAID) of the coxib class utilized in veterinary medicine. It is a prescription medication available for use in dogs and cats, frequently considered by veterinarians for patients presented with postoperative pain and inflammation. Your veterinarian will determine appropriateness based on a physical examination and diagnostic findings.

The actions described here reflect the product's FDA-approved labeling; your veterinarian determines the appropriate use for your animal.

Prescription only. Use only under the direction of a licensed veterinarian. This information is not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis, prescribing or monitoring.

At a pharmacological level, it is used in the context of managing the COX-2 enzyme system, providing an approach for managing inflammatory mediators while sparing the COX-1 enzyme. Commonly observed effects include localized digestive changes such as vomiting or diarrhea and behavioral shifts like lethargy. Because NSAIDs influence renal function, your veterinarian will monitor for observational signs of kidney stress. It is important that robenacoxib is only used for the specific short-term duration authorized by your veterinarian. Owners should monitor for pale gums and contact their veterinarian promptly.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes. Robenacoxib is a prescription medication and requires a valid authorization from a licensed veterinarian. Mixlab verifies all legal and professional standards.

Can robenacoxib be compounded?

Yes. While available in commercial tablets, Mixlab specializes in compounding robenacoxib into customized oral formats if a customized preparation better suits your pet's needs. The decision rests with your prescribing veterinarian.

How is this different from other NSAIDs?

Veterinarians discuss robenacoxib because its mechanism is highly selective for the COX-2 enzyme. This offers an approach to managing inflammation while minimizing the influence on other physiological pathways.

How long can my cat take this medication?

Robenacoxib is typically authorized for short-term use, often up to three days in cats. It is important to follow the professional schedule provided by your veterinarian.

Should I give this medication with food?

Robenacoxib is absorbed quickly and can be given with or without a small amount of food. Your veterinarian will provide specific guidance on the most appropriate administration schedule.
