Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant with strong antihistamine activity. On the FDA-approved human label, it is indicated for depression, anxiety, and insomnia.
In veterinary medicine, doxepin is used off-label in dogs and cats to help manage anxiety-related behaviors and, because of its antihistamine effect, certain allergic and compulsive skin conditions such as psychogenic overgrooming.
