Cyclosporine in AQ vehicle is a compounded ophthalmic suspension of cyclosporine (often 1–2%) in an aqueous base. It is used as an eye drop for dogs with dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca), delivering the immunosuppressive medication to the ocular surface to help increase tear production and reduce inflammation in the tear glands.

How to Give Your Pet Eye Drops – Suspension Type

Ophthalmic suspensions are eye drops that contain tiny medicine particles mixed in liquid. They may look a bit cloudy or milky—this is normal! The key is to gently shake before use so each drop has the right amount of medicine.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Wash Your Hands: Start clean to protect your pet’s eyes.
  2. Shake the Bottle: Gently invert or shake the bottle to mix the suspension before each use.
  3. Get Your Pet Comfortable: Sit your dog or wrap your cat in a towel to keep them still. A second person can help steady the head.
  4. Clean the Eyes (if needed): Use a damp cotton ball to remove discharge—use a clean one for each eye.
  5. Position for Application: Tilt your pet’s head up. Use your fingers to gently pull the lower eyelid down (or lift the upper one).
  6. Apply the Drops: Hold the dropper close (but don’t touch the eye) and squeeze the prescribed number of drops. The drops may look a little cloudy—totally normal for suspensions.
  7. Let Your Pet Blink: Blinking spreads the medicine evenly across the eye.
  8. Repeat for the Other Eye: Follow the same steps if both eyes are being treated.
  9. Prevent Rubbing: Keep your pet calm for a moment so the drops absorb.
  10. Storage & Tips: Shake before every use, wait 5–10 minutes between different eye meds. Store as directed (room temp or fridge—check your label) and recap tightly after use
