Cobalequin provides cyanocobalamin (a form of vitamin B12) together with 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, a folate derivative, as an oral cobalamin supplement.

Cobalamin is a water-soluble vitamin involved in numerous metabolic pathways, and folate works alongside it in several of those same pathways; veterinarians may consider cobalamin supplementation when bloodwork indicates low cobalamin levels, which can occur secondary to certain gastrointestinal conditions. As a vitamin supplement, this product is not reviewed or approved by the FDA in the way a drug would be; your veterinarian determines the appropriate dose and duration based on your dog's bloodwork and clinical picture.

This description reflects general information about the supplement's ingredients; your veterinarian determines whether this product is appropriate for your animal.

This information describes a dietary supplement. Supplements are not evaluated by the FDA for safety or effectiveness and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Consult your veterinarian before use.

This supplement is generally well tolerated, as excess water-soluble B vitamins are typically excreted in urine. Because cobalamin supplementation is often used to correct a measured deficiency, your veterinarian may recommend periodic bloodwork to monitor cobalamin levels and guide how long supplementation is needed. Contact your veterinarian if you notice vomiting, diarrhea, or a lack of appetite. As with any supplement, keep your veterinarian informed of everything your dog receives.

Do I need a prescription for this supplement?

No. This is a dietary supplement and does not require a prescription. It's available for purchase directly through Mixlab.

Why would my dog need a B12 supplement?

Veterinarians may recommend cobalamin supplementation when bloodwork shows low B12 levels, which can occur secondary to certain gastrointestinal conditions. Your veterinarian can explain what your dog's specific bloodwork indicated.

How long will my dog need to take this?

Duration varies by dog and is typically guided by rechecking cobalamin levels on bloodwork. Your veterinarian will advise on an appropriate schedule for your dog.

Can this be given alongside other supplements or medications?

Let your veterinarian know about all other supplements and medications your dog is taking so they can advise on how this fits into your dog's overall plan.
