Celecoxib is a COX-2 selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces inflammatory mediator production. On the FDA-approved human label, it is indicated for osteoarthritis and other painful inflammatory conditions.

In veterinary medicine, celecoxib is used off-label in dogs for pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis. This information is not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis, prescribing, or monitoring. Compounded drugs are not approved by the FDA for safety or effectiveness."

Give with food to reduce stomach upset. Commonly reported effects include vomiting, decreased appetite, and diarrhea; rare but serious effects include gastrointestinal ulceration, and liver or kidney injury. Avoid combining with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids, and use with caution in dogs with a history of gastrointestinal ulcers or kidney or liver disease. Cats are especially sensitive to NSAIDs as a class and require specific veterinary guidance before any NSAID use. Contact your veterinarian promptly if you notice black or bloody stool, vomiting, or a change in appetite or energy level.
