Calcitriol is the active form of vitamin D3 used in dogs and cats to manage calcium and phosphorus balance (for example, in chronic kidney disease or hypocalcemia). It is administered orally, typically as a capsule or liquid, in very small doses as prescribed by a veterinarian.
