Butorphanol tartrate is an opioid agonist-antagonist used as an analgesic and cough suppressant in animals. It is administered to dogs, cats, and horses via injection (IV or IM) for pain relief or as a pre-anesthetic, and can be given orally in dogs for cough by veterinary prescription.
