This mechanism is associated with blocking pre- and postsynaptic chloride ion transfer across cell membranes, leading to neuronal hyperexcitation in susceptible insects and ticks. Insects and ticks must feed on the animal to be exposed to fluralaner. The monthly format acts to maintain a consistent protection interval when administered as directed. Adverse effects reported with isoxazoline-class products include vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence and lethargy. The FDA has noted that isoxazoline-class ectoparasiticides have the potential to be associated with neurologic adverse effects including muscle tremors, ataxia and seizures, even at labeled dosages.
